The HKIE UK Chapter hosted the President’s Reception to the HKIE President Ir Ringo Yu at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), London on 11th October 2018. This was a very enjoyable evening as more than fifty guests, including presidents and CEOs of fellow engineering societies and professional bodies, industry leaders, top academia, and friends of the HKIE, were greeted by President Ir Ringo Yu, the Immediate Past President Ir Dr Philco Wong and the Past President Ir Peter Wong.
The evening started with a warm welcoming speech by the UK Chapter Chairman Ir Yan Zhou, before President Yu gave an inspirational presidential address. The motivating theme of ‘New Perspective New Momentum 新視野 新動力’ was very well delivered and provided the audience much food for thought, as demonstrated by the engaged discussions in the Q&A session afterwards. President Yu stressed that innovation and creativity are the key traits of engineers that matter in tackling the challenges facing the engineering industry. Showcasing recent outstanding achievements of Hong Kong young engineers and STEM students, the President shared his vision of empowering tomorrow’s talent in Hong Kong and overseas.
Before the reception, President YU and his delegation had a formal meeting with Mr. Andrew Wyllie CBE, President-elect of the ICE. President YU and Mr. Wyllie updated each other on the latest development in the engineering profession in Hong Kong and in the UK. The meeting also see the renewal of Agreement of Cooperation between the HKIE and ICE.
On a separate occasion, President YU presented a special gift to Emeritus Professor Tony Ridley of Imperial College in recognition and appreciation of his immense contribution to the engineering profession in Hong Kong and the UK.
